2018 BEACHSIDE DASH is promising to be bigger than ever!
In 2008 the St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation (SSMRF) launched the St. George Beachside DASH. The course, starts at Dolls Point and follows the bayside path to Kyeemagh and back to the finishing line in Peter Depena Reserve. Participants can choose from the 10 kilometre, 5 kilometre or 2 kilometre course and can run, DASH, jog or walk the distance.
This event was to showcase the work of SSMRF in promoting and supporting medical research in St George & Sutherland Hospitals, to raise much needed funds and to promote a healthy active community event.
A decade later, in 2017, over 800 participants entered the DASH, 86% were from Bayside, Georges River and Sutherland Shire LGA. The event attracts runners from all age groups just under half the participants were under 20 and about 100 runners were over 50.
SSMRF is all about promoting health and what better way to do so than by encouraging the community to come together in a fun activity where mums, dads, children and grandparents can all actively participate in the annual Beachside DASH
Currently, the DASH attracts just over 100 local children under the age of 12. With the state governments push for more “Active Kids” we want to greatly increase the participation of young children in the DASH by targeting the schools in the area and throwing out the challenge to “give it a go” and run, walk or DASH in support of medical research. We want to attract those kids who don’t think of themselves as athletes. Our focus will be on inclusion – all ages – all abilities. The emphasis will be on participation and completion.
Help us put the FUN back into fun run and join us on Sunday 9th September.
