Dr Giannakopoulos graduated in Medicine from the University of NSW in 1996, and subsequently completed a PhD in 2008. He completed a research fellowship at the Department of Immunology, Allergy and Infectious Diseases St George Hospital, investigating the pathogenic mechanisms underlying the Antiphospholipid Syndrome. He has specialist qualification in Rheumatology (FRACP). Over the past 6 years he has built up a program of research in the rheumatic autoimmune diseases, with a focus on the Antiphospholipid Syndrome. He currently has 14 publications in peer reviewed journals. He has served on Grant Review panels for NH&MRC. He has won national and international awards for his work on the Antiphospholipid Syndrome. His other research interests include medical education (currently undertaking a Masters in Medical Education).
