Dr Dinning completed his BSc with honours in 1993 and was awarded his PhD in Clinical Medicine at the University of New South Wales in 2005. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow in the St.George Clinical School, Department of Medicine (UNSW) where, over the past 5 years, he has headed up the research into colonic functional disorders.
During his post doctoral appointment he has published 22 original peer review papers, 7 invited reviews and a book chapter. He has attracted NH&MRC project grant funding since 2008. He serves on the editorial board of the journals Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and the World Journal of Gastroenterology and regularly serves as a reviewer for a number of national and international journals such as Gastroenterology, Am J Physiology, Am J Gastroenterology and Neurogastroenterology & Motility.
He is regularly invited to give presentations at National and International conferences. He has won national and international awards for his work on colonic motility including the prestigious Gastroenterological Society of Australia Young Investigator Award (clinical division). His research focuses on the measurement of human colonic contractile activity; the development of new tools to map and define the colonic dysmotility associated with severe constipation and faecal incontinence.
He has been instrumental in the development of the novel applications of fibre-optic sensing technology and computational modelling to better understand normal and disordered gut motility.
