Dr Li graduated in Medicine from the Henan Medical University of China in 1987, and subsequently completed a M.Sc. degree in Medicine at Henan Medical University, China in 1992. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in Faculty of Medicine in 2000 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. Dr Li completed his postdoctoral training at Cancer Care Centre, St George Hospital, UNSW, Sydney, Australia; was awarded the US Department Defence Prostate Cancer Research New Investigate Award in 2004 and then became an independent investigator.

Dr Li’s research program is aimed at a): To investigate novel biomarkers from human body fluids for cancer diagnosis and monitoring cancer progression; b): To investigate the mechanisms of prostate cancer metastasis and drug-resistance associated with tumour microenvironment or cancer stem cell markers; c): To use targeted cancer therapy and combination therapy to control micrometastatic prostate cancer and ovarian cancer. Dr Li’ laboratory employs cell and molecular biology techniques, modern proteomic techniques and metastatic animal model development as well as IVIS? Imaging System for animal monitoring. Over the past 7 years he has attracted 2 millions$ from different funding sources including NHMRC, ARC, US Department Defence, Cancer Institute NSW and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Noticeably, he was awarded the best Medical Research Award-NHMRC Achievement Award in 2010. He currently holds 1 million $ in NHMRC and ARC grants, as well as $0.3 million in other grant funding, has 50 publications in peer reviewed journals; and serves on the editorial board of the Open Biomarker Journal. He has regularly reviewed several national and international including NHMRC, Cure Cancer Australian Foundation, Prostate Cancer Charity, UK, Biomedical Research Funding in Scotland and Health Research Board (HRB) in Ireland. He has won national and international awards for his work in prostate cancer research, including US DOD Prostate Cancer Research Program Award, Cancer Institute Career Development Fellowship and NHMRC Career Development Fellowship.
