Associate Professor Grimm graduated with honours in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1983. He completed his training in gastroenterology in 1990 and his PhD in Medical Sciences at ANU in 1995. He pursued post-doctoral training in basic laboratory immunology at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, in Maryland USA, before returning to a Senior Lecturer in Medicine position at the St George Clinical School in 1998.
His research has attracted funding from the NHMRC since 1991 and his laboratory research focus has been on the immunopathogenesis of intestinal inflammation. He has published widely on these topics in peer-reviewed journals, both sub-specialist and generalist high impact scientific journals, and has numerous awards including the Young Investigator Award of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, the Fenner Medal from the Australian National University and a Fulbright Fellowship.
He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the Journal of Leukocyte Biology and Clinical Science. He has served on NHMRC grant review panels since 2006. Prof Grimm also has published on medical education topics and has received peer-reviewed funding and invited lectureships for educational research.
He is a Councillor and President-Elect of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.
