Dr. Winston Liauw

Dr. Winston Liauw MBBS (Syd) MMedSci (UNSW), FRACP.

Dr. Liauw graduated in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1995, was awarded his Fellowships in Medical Oncology (2002) and Pharmacology (2003) by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He completed a Master of Medical Science in drug development at the University of NSW in 2003.

Dr. Liauw has undertaken training as a medical oncologist and clinical pharmacologist and currently practices both of these disciplines. He has completed a Masters degree in pharmaceutical development (University of NSW) and is pursuing further research in the immunology of cancer. He is chief or co-investigator on numerous industry sponsored clinical trials both in oncology and non-oncology therapeutic areas and has experience of conducting Phase I clinical research through the St Vincent's hospital clinical trial centre. He continues to collaborate on research involved in development of novel therapeutics for prostate cancer. He has consulted for the pharmaceutical industry and non-governmental organisations in relationship to drug development and the conduct of clinical trials.

Aside from gastrointestinal cancer and pharmaceutical development he has an interest in research ethics and is Chair of the St George Hospital Ethics Committee and deputy chair of the Shared Scientific Assessment Scheme Core Committee and the Cancer Institute NSW Human Research Ethics Committee (Clinical Trials). He has published the results of clinical trials, cancer outcomes research, adverse event reporting in clinical trials and the review of clinical trial protocols.

Dr. Liauw has published 14 publications/book chapters. Dr. Liauw other interests include medical education and the use of information technology in medicine and in the latter capacity is a member of the National Prescribing Service Electronic Decision Support Working Group. He serves on local hospital drug committees.
