Significance

Osteoporosis affects 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men aged over 60 years.

Major Achievements

Newer therapies have been developed that can stimulate bone forming osteoblasts to increase bone density by up to 20% in 18 months and reduce fracture rates by up to 70%.

At SGH we have pioneered the technique to treat acute vertebral fractures with cement injection, relieving pain almost immediately (See figure).
