The Annual Foundation Dinner takes place each year on St George’s Day – April 23rd. The dinner is a celebration of the achievements of medical research at St George Hospital – it is typically not designed to be a major fundraising event but is an opportunity for medical staff and Foundation supporters to get together and enjoy an evening of entertainment.
The dinner also sees the delivery of a keynote address on a topic of relevance and a notable public speaker.
The Foundation dinner is a community-based event. As such, the cost of the event is kept relatively low to ensure that members of the local community are able to come along and enjoy the evening. The event attracts medical staff from the hospital, local businesses and groups, suppliers to the hospital, local Councils and the local media.
The 2008 Foundation Dinner sold out 4 weeks before the event and saw 330 people celebrate the launch of the Foundation. The Dinner raised $45,000 through ticket sales and a unique “reverse raffle”. Guests were treated to a surprise performance by Amy Pearson (courtesy of Sony BMG) who performed the 2008 Channel 7 Olympic theme song Ready to Fly. In addition, Bruce Wolpe – renowned expert on all things political in the USA and Head of Communations at Fairfax, delivered the inaugural Foundation keynote address. The address saw Bruce outline his perspective on the 2008 US Presidential Election.
The 2009 Foundation Dinner will take place on Thursday 23rd April 2009. Ticket prices have been held at 2008 (300 tickets are available). Ticket price includes three-course dinner, all alcohol and entertainment.
