2015 Grant Round Closed

A record number of grant applications have been received by the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation for 2015. Applications have now closed for 2015.

INDEPENDENT AND ROBUST

An external group of assessors will decide on the Capacity Building Grant grant by the end of the year. The expert Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee will decide on the other grants, also by the end of the year, through a robust process. If you have any questions about the grant process please contact the Foundation – 9098 4040.

PAGE 1 COVERAGE

The Foundation’s record grant allocation for 2015 received extensive coverage in the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader recently. The front page story was accompanied by coverage of one of Prof Ian Cook’s patients, Cheryl Pirreca, who benefited from his research in swallowing problems. Prof Cook’s research had been funded by an NHMRC grant of $300,000 several years ago. The Foundation exists exclusively to support research at St George and Sutherland Hospitals.

ASPIRATIONS

We plan to grow the size and number of grants over the next decade so that grants such as Prof Cook’s NHMRC grant are a regular part of the St George and Sutherland landscape. The Foundation has started preparing articles about research outcomes, which we plan to launch on our website soon. If you have any ideas for stories like Cheryl Pirreca’s, contact the Foundation office by email at ceo@ssmrf.com.au
