Thank you to all the sponsors and teams who helped SSMRF raise over $8,000 for medical research on Monday 9 November at Cronulla Golf Club.
The weather was beautiful & the conditions were perfect to play a round with old friends and new.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to give away a Jeep Wrangler at the ‘Hole in One’ on the 18th! But a couple of shots came incredibly close, and Tynan Motors was very generous in providing the incentive to play on the day.
We would like to acknowledge Michael Lehner and Chat Financial Planning in Kogarah, who deserve special thanks for making this day happen. Michael has supported the Foundation since our inception. The St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation works year-round to fund life-saving and life-improving research in our local hospitals.
- Our winning team was from Bluestone Property Solutions – Grant Amer, Rodney Blackman, Julian Urquhart & Alan Taylor – with a Nett score of 54.9.
- This was closely followed by Brett Maxworthy, Tim Faase, Liam Aggett and Ian Cook with a Nett score of 55.3.
- The Longest Drive on the 9th was claimed by Brett Davis & the Nearest the Pin (just missing out on that Jeep) went to Bill Stevanoski.

Here is what some of our sponsors had to say at dinner, after the golf concluded:
Shimano Australia: “Shimano Australia is very much a part of our local community. We make products for you to enjoy the outdoors, and today was certainly a great day for that. Research saves lives & we all have family & friends who need it. So we’re proud supporters of the Foundation, and thank you for today.”
Bluestone: “From our perspective, the Shire is a great community area, and Bluestone is committed to building sustainable communities. We have a vision for Woolooware Bay, and we’re very proud to support the vision of the Foundation. We’ve launched 460 apartments & we’re waiting for our next release of 180 apartments – 97% of our buyers are from the Shire. Our next stop is Kogarah. Thanks once again, we’re happy to support charities & if you want to buy a unit, please come & talk to Bluestone!”
Orange Journeys: “We sell travel, here in Cronulla, and we’ve been here for twenty years. We really want to give back to the community, so I was very happy to support the Foundation and the wonderful work they do. We want to keep involved. We sell all sorts of packages, like river cruises, but we specialise in tailor made holidays. We are socially responsible and sustainable – it’s a win win win. So come and see us at Orange Journeys!”
Brett Maxworthy: “Firstly, it’s a pleasure to run into new individuals today. I played with some characters & we’ve all contributed to looking after the community. I’ve enjoyed being a part of it, and it’s great to be part of what the Foundation is doing – it makes you feel good & I look forward to seeing you next year. If you’re looking to hire any entertainment, please contact the Cronulla Golf Club!”
