Earlier this year, we announced the 2020 SSMRF Grant Rounds open for Expression of Interest applications. We received applications for research projects across a wide range of key health areas, including Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Microbiome, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the Impact of Sars Cov 2 on health care service delivery.
The SSMRF Research Committee has now completed the difficult review and selection process and we are excited to announce the 2020 SSMRF Medical Research Grant Recipients. We thank each applicant for their submission and congratulate the grant recipients.
Three researchers from the St George Hospital and the Sutherland Hospital have been awarded a SSMRF research grant for research projects across multiple disciplines.
- Dr Kevin (Jie) Ni, $46,000,
A novel liquid biopsy assay of blood exosomal microRNA profiles to improve prostate cancer.
- Professor Georgina Hold, $50,000,
Facilitating Translational Research Studies in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
- Dr Bill Giannakopoulos, $50,000,
Quantification of redox forms of plasma ApoJ, ApoH and PDI to identify at risk patients for Alzheimer’s disease.
Research projects such as these which are focussed on improving care for medical conditions and diseases that impact many in our community, are made possible through the support and donations from our SSMRF community and we take this opportunity to thank you once again for your generosity.
We look forward to keeping you updated on these research projects in the new year.
