Southern Sydney is lacing up for a massive turnout as the Beachside Dash heads towards a record-breaking year, with more than 1,000 participants already signed up.
Set to return to Dolls Point on Sunday, September 13, the community tradition celebrates its 19th year by introducing its first certified 21.1km half marathon alongside its classic family-friendly line-up.
This year’s milestone half marathon creates a seamless running connection across the region, taking athletes from Dolls Point across Captain Cook Bridge into the Sutherland Shire, turning near Ocean Protect Stadium (Shark Park), and bringing them back along the scenic shores of Botany Bay.
The expanded course brings together residents across Bayside, Georges River, and Sutherland Shire councils to champion active living and support life-saving medical research.
In addition to the new distance, participants can take part in four traditional events: the certified 10km, certified 5km, the 2km Dash and School Cup Challenge, and the 2km Corporate Cup Challenge. While the half marathon is run under strict race conditions, the 10km, 5km, and 2km courses are open to runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages.
St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation (SSMRF) chief executive Pam Brown said the response from participants has been strong this year.
