Leaving a gift in your will is a great way for you to support vital medical research. Leaving a specific amount, or a proportion of your estate, to medical research is both a very empowering and a very generous act. It really does mean that your legacy is to have an impact on other people’s lives.
At the Foundation we understand that writing a Will and leaving a specific Bequest are decisions that are not taken lightly. We very much appreciate your decision to support the work of the Foundation and you can be sure that your bequest – however large or small – will be used to support high-quality medical research at St George and Sutherland hospitals. Your bequest will help us in our quest to ‘bring research to life’.

It is important to ensure that any gift to the Foundation is used in the way that you wish. Your legal advisor can assist you with this and can advise you on different ways of structuring your Will and your gift. As a general guide only the following wording for your Will is recommended:
‘I give and bequeath free of all duties the sum of $_______ (add here the specific amount) or XX% of (add here the percentage of estate or share of assets to be gifted) my estate to the St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation of PO BOX 35, Kogarah, NSW 1455 absolutely for (select one of):
the general use of the Foundation in medical research (our preferred choice)
specific medical research into
(add a desired area – such as cancer or arthritis)
I direct that a receipt of the proper officer for the time being of the St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my trustee/s’.
The wording of your Will is critical in ensuring that your estate is distributed in the way that you wish. Please do seek professional advice and please do discuss your specific needs with your family and / or friends.
