Building Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Research Capacity – The St George and Sutherland IBD Project
Amount Funded: $36,020.00
Project Description: IBD is an incurable chronic disabling disease that impacts the health, life course and quality of many people within the St George and Sutherland Shire community. Australia has one of the highest incidence/prevalence rates of IBD globally, with an annual cost to society of $2.7 billion. Our primary aim is to establish world-class IBD clinical research infrastructure, within St George and Sutherland Hospitals to help us to improve the clinical management of our patients by more accurately recording information on our IBD population. This will create an opportunity to better inform IBD therapeutic decision-making and influence IBD clinical resource management. A subsequent outcome will be to facilitate rapid innovation and translation of findings into new treatments which will benefit the IBD population. The ultimate aim is to change the course of this lifelong disease in our patients thus enriching the healthcare of the community through medical research at St George and Sutherland hospitals. The vision for IBD Research at St George Hospital is big, we want to find the cure for IBD.
