Beachside Dash
The Beachside Dash is our biggest annual fundraiser. While the last two editions have been held as virtual events due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Dash usually hosts over 700 local residents taking part in 2km, 5km, and 10km races to raise money for vital medical research down at Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point NSW. You can find more information on getting involved with future editions of the Beachside Dash. We are always looking for street vendors, entertainers, sponsors and volunteers, we would love to hear from you!
Red For Research
Red for Research is our month-long campaign each June where we ask you to Go Red for Research. This could be wearing red, eating something red, reading a red book or kicking a red ball. By making noise about medical research and the important role it has to play in our community, we are grateful for the support of individuals, schools, businesses and our local hospitals in supporting this campaign. Get involved in 2022’s #RedforResearch campaign.
Golf Day
Every year, we host a golf day at The Australian Golf Club to raise funds for vital medical research. Eight teams from eight different businesses compete to be crowned SSMRF’s Golf Day Champion. With support from the Australian Golf Club, Sponsors and our teams, we raise tens of thousands of dollars for medical research every year. Join us at our Golf Day Lunch on Thursday, 12 May 2022. Contact us to join us for lunch or get involved with our golf day.
PARTNER EVENTS
St George District Cricket Club Charity Walk
In November 2020, the St George District Cricket Club hosted their 7th annual charity walk to help raise awareness and much needed funds to SSMRF. Club President and Georges River Mayor, Kevin Greene and his wife Frances lead the walk each year. Last year’s walk started at Hurstville Oval and the U21 team commenced T20 double header against Sutherland. The walk covered 20kms through Hurstville, Allawah, Carlton, Oatley, Peakhurst, and Penshurst before returning to the Hurstville Oval in time for the 1st Grade game at 2:30pm. We are extremely grateful to the Club for their continued support.
Michael Tynan Challenge
In 2020, participants battled through various challenges to continue its 5th year of supporting local medical research. Challenges included a spectacular coastal walk from Otford through to Bundeena and a virtual challenge where you could walk, ride or swim to reach your 30km goals in 24 days. Through the support and funds raised by the Challenge, the Foundation has been able to raise much needed funds for vital medical research in both St. George and Sutherland hospitals. Unfortunately, due to restrictions in 2021, the next challenge has been postponed to 2022 but we cannot wait to see what fantastic events and challenges are held to support medical research.
St George Dragons – 50/50 Raffle
Over the last few NRL seasons, the St. George Dragons have selected SSMRF as one of their charity partners and beneficiaries for the 50/50 raffles. Attendees of Rounds 1 and 13 in the 2021 season bought raffles tickets at the match with 50% of the total raised going to one lucky winner at each game and the other 50% going to the Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of the Dragons’ fanbase we were able to raise almost $3,000 for medical research.
