St George DCC Warren Saunders OAM Tribute Walk for Medical Research

On Saturday 28 February, the St George DCC Warren Saunders OAM Tribute Walk once again brought our community together in support of medical research, raising over $27,000 for medical research grants at our local hospitals.

This is the 13th year the Club has chosen SSMRF as its Charity Partner, and John Saunders, Managing Director of Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers, led the Walk in honour of his father. He was joined by St George DCC members and representatives of fellow St George DCC sponsors, Club Central Hurstville, Club Rivers and Ramsgate RSL.

Club President and SSMRF Ambassador, Kevin Greene AM, notes, “Our Club is proud to be associated with SSMRF and the team of dedicated doctors and researchers they support. The St George District Cricket Club has made a firm commitment to SSMRF that we will continue to get behind the Foundation. The Annual Walk also serves as a tribute to our former Patron, Warren Saunders OAM, who sadly passed away on 1 March 2023, almost exactly three years to the day of this year’s Walk. Warren was a wonderful supporter of so many local organisations and always a generous contributor to this Annual SSMRF fundraiser.”

This year, the roughly 20-kilometre walk commenced at Hurstville Oval and concluded roughly 4 hours later back at the ground, in time for the first delivery of the St George first-grade match against the strong Manly Warringah.

“Please consider making a donation to the St George DCC Warren Saunders OAM Tribute Walk as we raise funds to support medical research projects in our local St George and Sutherland Hospitals,” said Kevin.
