News
Applications are now open for expressions of interest for new research grants from SSMRF. These grants will be open to researchers based at either St George or Sutherland Hospitals including scientific, medical, nursing/midwifery and allied health staff.
The grants will take two forms: early career researcher grants (up to $20,000) and standard research grants (up to $50,000). It is envisaged that several of each grant type will be awarded for a 12 month period. Expressions of Interest (EOI) must be received by SSMRF by COB Friday 26th May, 2023.

On Saturday 28 February 2026 St George District Cricket Club conducted its Annual Charity Walk to help raise awareness and much needed funds for the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation.
SSMRF Annual Dinner
SOLD OUT: Join St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation for our Annual Dinner on Friday 15 May 2026, an evening dedicated to celebrating medical research that improves health outcomes for our local community. The night will recognise and formally present the 2025 Research Grant Recipients, supporting early-stage, high-impact projects across cancer, women’s health, immunotherapy and paediatric research. Enjoy a relaxed evening of conversation, connection and purpose with researchers, clinicians, supporters and partners, alongside a two-course dinner and drinks. The program will also include fundraising activities and raffles on the night, with all proceeds supporting future medical research. A special keynote speaker will be announced closer to the event.
SSMRF Golf Day
Our annual Golf Day was held on 21 May 2026 at the renowned Australian Golf Club to raise funds for vital medical research. Teams from businesses competed for the title of SSMRF Golf Day Champion while enjoying a day of camaraderie and competition – all for a good cause. Following the charity golf game, participants gathered for a gourmet lunch in the stunning dining room at the Australian Golf Club. It’s a fantastic way to come together, enjoy a day of golfing and support life-saving medical research. With the ongoing support of The Australian Golf Club, sponsors and participating teams, we raise tens of thousands of dollars each year to drive essential research projects.
Beachside Dash
The Beachside Dash is our biggest annual fundraiser. The 19th annual Beachside Dash and Family Fun Run will be held on Sunday 13 September 2026. Save the date and help us raise money for critical medical research at St George and Sutherland Hospitals. Join us for our much-loved 10km, 5km, Corporate Cup Challenge and 2km School Cup Challenge & Family Fun Run events. Registrations now open. We can’t wait to welcome runners, families, schools and supporters back for another unforgettable day by the bay.
