International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We take this opportunity to thank and celebrate some of our fantastic female researchers, directors and grant recipients.

Meet Professor Kate Moore AO.
Prof Moore founded the pelvic floor unit – of which she is now the director, at St George Hospital more than 25 years ago, and is also a founding member of St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation – a role she is particularly proud of.

“Since 2007, we have seen the foundation grow significantly,” Professor Moore said. “It’s been extremely rewarding to have helped facilitate links between the research undertaken and the community, and I hope to see this important work continue to flourish.”

Prof Moore was rewarded with an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2019 for her distinguished service to medicine, and to medical research, in the field of urogynaecology, and to professional groups. Professor Moore is also the former chairwoman of the Senior Medical Staff Council, a training coordinator in general obstetrics and gynaecology and was the recipient of Woman Scientist of the Year Award, St George Hospital, 2017.

Congratulations and thank you Professor Moore for your commitment and service to medicine and the healthcare of the community.
