Local Doctor’s passion for the training of young doctors lives on

Dr George Charles Wilson AM was a prominent medical practitioner in the Kogarah region from 1951 to 2004.

For many of those years he was a consultant physician at Wandene Private Hospital and St George Hospital. He was also a lecturer at the University of NSW and had a major impact on the training of young doctors.

A defining characteristic of Dr Wilson was his service to the community. Following his passing in May 2011, the family of Dr Wilson made a generous donation to the St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation (SSMRF) to establish the Dr George C. Wilson AM Prize, honouring Dr Wilson’s passion for education and training of young doctors.

The Dr George C. Wilson AM Prize now in its 7th year is awarded to a St George Hospital junior doctor who is deemed to have conducted the best Grand Rounds presentation in the year of the award.  This year’s Dr George C. Wilson AM Prize was jointly awarded to Geriatric Advanced Trainees Dr Michael O’Brien and Dr Daniel Wong for their Grand Rounds Presentation “Big Little Lies” on elder abuse.
