On Friday 18 November 2016, major car manufacturers, businesses including NRMA, Hoyts, the MTA and Masterton Homes, local doctors and researchers all came together to celebrate the life and times of St George and Sutherland Shire identity Michael Tynan.
In Michael’s memory, the Tynan family pledged to raise $500,000 for medical research over four events.
The first three – a walk from Wollongong through National Park, the Shire and St George, a paddle up the coast and a car rally – were completed in October as part of the Michael Tynan Memorial Challenge – were more than $150,000 was raised.
The fourth, a Charity Ball celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Tynan Motors, aimed to raise $350,000. And it sure did, in excess of $500,00 in total was raised across all the events for life-saving and life-improving medical research in St George & Sutherland Hospitals.
“Michael Tynan was a Family man, a Businessman, a Committed Christian and a Community man.
So it is very fitting that (tonight) we not only celebrate Michael’s life and achievements but we join in with his commitment to the Community and support the endeavors of the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation in the vital work they do in medical research.
Michael understood very well the need for our involvement in all kinds of Business and Community Projects.
So thank you once again for your generosity and attendance (here this evening).
We are greatly honoured‘’ said Annette Tynan on behalf of the Tynan Family.
One of Tynan Motors and SSMRF supporters, FCA Australia, donated a Jeep for the live auction at this event. “FCA Australia has enjoyed a long and successful association with the Tynan Motor Group. We are honoured to support Tynan Motor’s 50th Anniversary Ball with the donation of a Jeep Grand Cherokee to help raise vital funds for such a worthy cause.” said Steve Zanlunghi, President & CEO, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia.
On the night, we also gave away a Suzuki Swift as part of the raffle. Congratulations David Johnston from United Resource Management, who won this fabulous prize! Generously, Mr. Johnston chose to donate the car to be put up for auction at the Charity Ball, raising a further funds for SSMRF.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the night, donated a prize or donated to medical research – without your support medical research cannot continue and without medical research, medicine stands still.
