On Saturday 1 March 2025, St George District Cricket Club conducted its Annual Charity Walk to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation.
This was the 12th year the Club chose SSMRF as their Charity Partner and Club President Kevin Greene AM led the Walk. Kevin is an Ambassador of SSMRF.
“I’m proud to be associated with SSMRF and the team of dedicated doctors and researchers they support. The St George District Cricket Club has made a firm commitment to SSMRF that we will continue to get behind the Foundation. The Annual Walk will now also serve as a tribute to our former Patron, Warren Saunders OAM, who sadly passed away on 1 March 2023, almost two years to the day of this year’s Walk. Warren was a wonderful supporter of so many local organisations and always a generous contributor to this Annual SSMRF fundraiser.”
This year, the Walk coincided with the local derby against St George District Cricket Club’s friends from Sutherland Cricket Club, with the Norm O’Neill Trophy contested in first grade. Fittingly, the Walk commenced at Hurstville Oval and concluded 4 hours later at Sutherland Oval in time for the first delivery of that match.
